Announcements for the Week, 5/30-6/2

Dear Room 19 Families, 
Happy Memorial Day!  I hope that all of you were able to take advantage of the long weekend!

Below, please find some reminders and updates, as well as a brief summary of what we are working on this week.  As a result of the half-day schedules, and IRP presentations, homework will be very light, and we will not start a new Wordly Wise lesson.  We have started to get promotion practice going, and this week students will bring home their Pacific memory to memorize.

Information & Updates:   
  • Reading Assessments & ½ Days This Week -  We will be on half-day schedule Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (8:10-12:40), and regular 1:30 dismissal on Wednesday.

  • Valet Duty- If you are available for Valet Duty the last week of school, please sign up using this link:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4fa5a62daafb6-panther64
  • IRP/Genius Hour Presentations-  Presentations will begin tomorrow. Click on the: presentation schedule to view your presentation date .  Students are encouraged to dress-up, make a model, or bring props, if appropriate for their topic.  As a reminder, students can access their slides at home by logging-on to their Google accounts.
  • Cumulative Root Word Test 6/7- Students will have a test on all 100 root words on Wednesday, June 7th.  Students have a completed master study guide, and are encouraged to ask me for blank practice copies.
  • 5th Grade Promotion-  Promotion takes place on June 15, at 9:45.  Families start seating at 9:45.  Our fifth grade students will present a program of songs and memories.  Following the program, there will be a reception on the cafeteria patio.  Our 5th grade students will take their final Walk Through the Halls at 12:15! 
  • Tuesday-
    • Remember to bring your instruments.
    • 12:40 dismissal.
  • Wednesday-
    • Social Studies quiz on the Southeast states/capitals.
    • 1:30 dismissal.
  • Thursday-
    • We have science lab.
    • 12:40 dismissal.
  • Friday-
    • 12:40 dismissal.

What We’re Working on This Week
:

  • Reading- We are working on our non-fiction reading skills through Scholastic News, and are reading our last core literature novel, Boy, by Roald Dahl.  As we read, students are journaling, discussing, and identifying Notice & Note Signposts.
  • Writing- IRP presentations this week!  Please refer back to the schedule above for your presentation date.
  • Math- We are reviewing topics from the year.
  • Social Studies- Visit Mrs. Stelter's website.  There is a quiz on the Southeast states/capitals on Wednesday. The 50 states and capitals quiz will be on June 7.  Click HERE and HERE for copies of states test and capitals test.  Students are welcome to download and practice at home.  Students can also practice with the Quizlet set linkedHERE.  There are also numerous websites that offer states/capitals games.  This website has especially good games (click on the link). 
  • Science- We are studying the human body.
